INT. HOTEL LAFAYETTE - It is a place of putrefying elegance, a rotting host of urban decay. Jace leads David from the stairwell down the hall of the thirteenth floor. They stop outside room 1313.
JACE : This is it..let me give you one piece of advice. Be honest- he knows more than you can imagine.
INT. ROOM 1313- Across the room, a dark figure stares out the tall windows veiled with decaying lace. He turns and his smile lights up the room.
WOLF: At last.
He wears a long black coat and his eyes are invisible behind circular mirrored glasses. He strides to David and they shake hands.
WOLF: Welcome, David. As you no doubt have guessed, I am Wolf.
DAVID : It's an honor to meet you.
WOLF : No, the honor is mine. Please, come. Sit.
Wolf nods to Jace.
WOLF: Thank you, Jace.
Jace bows his head sharply and exits through a door to an adjacent room. They sit across from one another in cracked, burgundy leather chairs.
WOLF: I imagine, right now, you must be feeling a bit like Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole?
David : You could say that.
WOLF : I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees, because he is expecting to wake up.
A smile, razor-thin, curls the corner of Wolf’s lips.
WOLF: Ironically, this is not far from the truth....
WOLF: Do you believe in fate, David?
DAVID: No.
Wolf smiles slightly, then tilts his head to one side.
WOLF: Why?
David : Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my own life.
WOLF: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know, you can't explain. But you feel it. You've felt it your entire life. That there's something . . . wrong with the world.
You don't know what it is, but it's there...like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?
David : The Game?
WOLF: Do you want to know . . . what . . . it . . . is . . ?
David nods
WOLF : The Game is everywhere. It's all around us, even in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to work, when you pay your taxes. The Game is the world that has been pulled over your eyes, to blind you from the truth.
DAVID : What truth?
WOLF : That you are a slave, David. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison...for your mind....Unfortunately, no one can be..._told_ what the Game is...you have to see it for yourself.
Wolf opens a container which holds two pills : a blue one, and a red one. He puts one in each hand, and holds them out to David. The pills in his open hands are reflected in his glasses.
WOLF: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back.....You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up and believe...whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill.....you stay in Wonderland...and I show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
David pauses for an instant, then reaches for the blue pill. He swallows it down with a glass of water, and looks Wolf straight in the eye.
David: You people are mental. What kind of a name is Wolf anyway? Freaks. I’m going home to my girlfriend.
As David departs, Wolf sighs and rubs his face with one hand, a tired expression on his face.
WOLF: Jace! Do you still have that pasty little nerd’s number? What was his name? Anderson?
JACE : This is it..let me give you one piece of advice. Be honest- he knows more than you can imagine.
